Road Traffic Collision 3rd Nov 2012

At 06.40 Saturday 03/11/12, pager message received to attend RTC on A66 3-4 miles east of Penrith where two HGV's had collided obliquely head-on; It was also raining heavily & just getting light.
Two of the newest Doctors of the BEEP Fund (BASICS Penrith Scheme) attended immediately & Dr Weston also attended approx 20 minutes later.
There was a huge amount of damage to both cabs & both drivers were trapped within the cabs. Both had very significant injuries. It took nearly an hour for them to be cut free by the Fire Service, & the casualty more significantly injured also proved to be the most challenging to extricate.
Both air ambulances from the Great North Air Ambulance attended (one of which had a doctor on board) & both casualties were flown to James Cook in Middlesborough.
