14.32 Monday 2/03/15: serious RTC on A66 eastbound duel carriageway at Stainton/Newbiggin intersection 3 miles west of Penrith, small car driven by young female from Penrith hit an elderly female pedestrian who was walking across the road. She was thrown into the air & landed on the road. She suffered very serious life threatening injuries of her head, chest & legs. She was attended to by a BEEP Dr, several NWAS paramedics & the paramedic/doctor crew of the GNAAS air ambulance. She was given a blood transfusion & a general anaesthetic at the scene as well as various other life saving procedures before being flown to the RVI in Newcastle.
